Saving Lives, Step By Step

For the fourth year running, Caliber Collision is setting down our shop tools and picking up our walking shoes by partnering with the American Heart Association for their annual Heart Walk. We may be experts in collision repair, but we also have a passion for people. The American Heart Walk is held every year across the country, raising funds and encouraging others to live happier and healthier lives through heart-healthy activities. We’re pitching in and forming our own team to participate in the Dallas Walk on September 10th.

It’s a little known fact that our country’s No. 1 and No. 5 killers are heart disease and stroke. The AHA conducts research, spreads awareness, and encourages lifestyle changes that significantly reduce the chances of succumbing to these conditions. When it comes to heart health they have you covered with a few tips to keep the ol’ ticker in tip-top shape.

Walking isn’t just for fundraisers; it’s also one of the most effective and easiest activities we can add into our daily lives to reduce our risk of heart-related problems. Walking for as few as 30 minutes a day provides a plethora of heart health benefits. Lawn work, housework, and even parking just a bit farther away from the grocery store are all ways we can easily fit in enough walking to improve our health substantially.

Healthy eating is another way we can easily show our hearts some love. In just a few simple steps we can create good habits that last a lifetime. Eating whole grains, a variety of fruits and vegetables, skinless poultry and fish, and low-fat dairy products are just a few of the healthy decisions we can make when planning our meals.

Quitting smoking is one of the most effective things you can do to avoid premature death. Smokers have a higher risk of developing many chronic disorders, but the very moment you quit smoking, your lungs begin to heal themselves. The process continues for a lifetime, so it’s never too late to quit.

This year roughly one million people will participate in over 300 events across the country to take a stand against heart disease, and we’re proud to be a part of that movement. After all, we’re in the business of fixing things, and we’re excited about getting to the heart of the matter.
